The Siege of Greyridge Fort

The truce brokered by the Rudawa and Arcadia kingdoms has fallen apart! Rudawa has crossed the fragile border into the Arcadian borderlands, attempting to capture Greyridge Fort, a stretegic location for an offensive against the heartland. They have sent their best champion to take out the outpost and claim it for themselves. It is up to the brave defenders of Arcadia to hold out against this doom. Have you got what it takes to save our brave kingdom?

CONTROLS

LEFT MOUSE CLICK - place down a unit

1 - select the knight unit

2 - select the patroller unit

3 - select the archer unit

IMPORTANT

The aim of the game is to find/defeat the incoming player who wants to loot and take over your fort! Stop the player from reaching the banner by sending your best troops to scout the area and combat this perilous threat.

Use gold to purchase reinforcements, but beware, funds only slowly come into your reserve!

Units:

Knight (200 Gold) - strong unit, cannot move, can deal massive damage, low visibility

Patroller (100 Gold) - medium strength unit, moves in patrol pattern, deals low damage, high visibility

Archer (200 Gold) - low strength, cannot move, deals low damage, very high visibility and range

This game was made for the GMTK Game Jam 2023. The theme was "Roles Reversed".

I think the game could use some more animations/visual feedback so that the player knows that things are working.
E.g.
-The enemy can flash red when hit by a unit
-Arrow projectile for the archer + a hit animation when in contact with an enemy
-Sword swing animation/radius for knight and patroller.

It would be nice if you could switch units via the onscreen UI/buttons (I kept accidentally pressing the buttons and spawning a unit underneath the button). Also I accidentally spawn enemies inside the walls.

But good job on the rest of the game, it's a bit slow but the mechanics work :)

Thanks for the feedback! Glad you gave it a go. It was a tough 48h, wish I could make it more fluid and easier to play.

Because you asked for improvements here are two of my suggestions:
- display a timer before the enemy spawns
- make it clear what is your units range

Thanks for the ideas, unit range is definitely a core mechanic that  I wish I had more time for. I appreciate you giving this game a go and happy jammin!
